Day 29 – Christmas β›„

Last minute Christmas present finders – this post is for you!

I’m travelling a lot this Christmas so (for slightly self-serving reasons) I thought I’d have a look for easy DIY Christmas gifts.

The good news is they exist, the better news is that I’ve made a list!

Happy crafting πŸ™Œ

Candy cane sugar scrub? Yes please, Santa πŸŽ…

Or a gingerbread one!

Why not make this sweet festive treat

…Or its citrussy, gin flavoured cousin?

Speaking of alcohol, what could be better than Christmas pudding vodka πŸΈ

Or a gift that can be personalised to anyone’s tastes β˜•

And this cute mug looks easy peasy 😍

Finally, for those more artistically inclined, you could even personalise a tote.

Thank you to everyone for your amazing ideas!

Day 28 – Coco DΓ‘vez Artist Profile

As a new student of art and an old student of Spanish, I’ve become obsessed with the artist Coco DΓ‘vez.

I first came across DΓ‘vez on Instagram and I immediately fell in love because her art is so colourful, bold and fun. DΓ‘vez, from Madrid, frequently uses primary colours and bold shapes so it feels like it’s always summertime on her site πŸ‰πŸ‰

As an artist, DΓ‘vez’s style lies somewhere between pop art and new realism but she dabbles in body art and makes small prints and postcards as well. DΓ‘vez’s art is so modern and accessible because, as pointed out in this article, it is displayed first and foremost in the public gallery of social media.

Here are a few of DΓ‘vez’s works, mainly from the Faceless collection, as well as some others from her Instagram. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Don’t forget to follow:

Muchas gracias 😘

Day 27 – Accessories

Much to my mother’s despair, I love black clothes 😍

They’re striking, cool, timeless and if monochrome was good enough for Coco Chanel, it’s good enough for me!

But what do you buy for the ‘I’ll stop wearing black when they make a darker colour‘ girl in your life for Christmas?

Well, I’ve done the hard work for you πŸ™Œ

Here are the coolest black accessories I found on Etsy:

These gold dipped earrings

This leather necklace

This unusual ring

This cool-girl necklace

These minimalist earrings

This edgy bangle

This cute little cloud ring

This modern wood necklace

This delicate hexagon bracelet

This geometric ring

This wooden necklace

These tiny round stud earrings

This half and half bangle

This cartoon cube necklace

These semi-circle earrings

This lovely friendship bracelet

Or these geo earrings!

Happy shopping πŸŽ„β›„

Day 26 – Travel

As a language student, I’ve spent a lot of the last year travelling and most of the rest of my time talking about it…

I didn’t want to write a travel blog or use this site just as a place to reminisce but today I’d like to share a few of the best things about Moscow! πŸ‡·πŸ‡Ί

I know that no one really factors Russia into their holiday plans on the reg.

You need a visa, there will be a language barrier, everyone is convinced Russia is scary etc etc πŸ€” but stay with me because it’s SUCH an interesting country and Moscow is well worth a visit. Here are a few reasons why:

  • The architecture

When you mention Moscow, everyone thinks about the Kremlin and St Basil’s Cathedral and for good reason, they’re gorgeous:

But also, look at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour:

Moscow State University:

The State Duma:

The White House:

Moskva City:

  • Transport – it’s not a stereotypically sexy reason to go to a place but in Moscow you can get around so easily and it’s actually a pleasure!

You can take the metro – just look at the art:

Look at the ingenious layout *gasp*

And if you take the light blue line from Alexandrovsky Sad you can see the White House and Moskva City from the window! P.s it’s so cheap to use 🏧

You can get to St Petersburg on the Sapsan train in 4h and the journey is gorgeous πŸ›€πŸš„

Also, after the metro stops running around 1am, the Yandex taxi app is excellent and cheap and there is also Uber πŸ™Œ

  • The museums:

You can learn about architecture at the Shchusev museum, history at the State Historical Museum, visit the State Armoury and Diamond funds in the Kremlin, learn about space at the Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics, or see a 360 painting of the Battle of Borodino

Also you can visit every single one of these galleries!

  • The food

For Russian food, visit Kafe Pushkin

For Georgian food try Jon Joli or Π‘Π°Ρ‚ΠΎΠ½ΠΈ (Batoni) at Novoslobodskaya:

Experience the best, inexpensive sushi I’ve ever had at Yakitoriya, a chain all over the city BC Russia is obsessed with Japanese food. They do amazing hot rolls as well 🍱🍱

Moscow has excellent vegetarian and vegan restaurants, I spent a lot of time in both Fresh and Avocado πŸ‰

Another great food place is Danilovsky Market, there are small stalls, hot food and baked goods.

  • The hangouts

Ziferblat cafe on Tverskaya is cosy and adorable and you pay by the minute, not per drink. At 2 roubles per minute (around 2p) you can have a coffee and go and spend 30 pence!

Gorky Park

ВДНΠ₯ park

The cafes and restaurants near Belorusskaya are also great for relaxing with friends 😍

Bar Strelka has a great view of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour and also a MOZZARELLA BAR πŸ™Œ

  • The shopping:

Internationally famous GUM on Red Square is particularly beautiful at Christmas.

The underground shopping centre ΠžΡ…ΠΎΡ‚Π½Ρ‹ΠΉ ряд near Red Square has everything you could need, even a great organic cosmetics shop and it has very cool architecture:

Central Detskiy Mir is a shopping centre for children, it is full of toys with a cinema at the top and an incredible view from the roof 🎈

  • There are excellent events!

You can see the ballet at the Bolshoi or the Kremlin theatre, watch a musical, visit the ice cream festival, go into the streets to celebrate Victory Day (it is difficult to comprehend the sheer number of weapons of war paraded but it’s massively important in the Russian calendar), visit the Christmas and New Year market on Red Square, and then the Easter market, or even look around the summer fish festival 🐟🐠

I’m sure I’ll write about Moscow again because it is huge and there is so much more to say!

Thank you for reading πŸ˜πŸ‡·πŸ‡ΊπŸ™Œ

Day 24 – Christmas Nails

It’s been a busy week… 4 exams and 3 tutor meetings later, it’s finally the end of the semester!

Now we can go FULL CHRISTMAS πŸ˜πŸŽ„πŸŽ…

I’ve already had enough mulled wine, prosecco, mince pies and hot chocolate to get in the spirit of things so here are the best ideas for festive nails that I could find on Pinterest!

Happy Saturday πŸŽ„πŸŽ…β›„

Day 23 – Neon

As you might have noticed from my blog header, I’m quite a fan of the neon artist Jung Lee and in the interests of not writing about Christmas again (for the third time this week πŸŽ…πŸŽ„πŸŽ) I’m going to share some neon art with you instead!

Neon art lies somewhere in the intersection between poetry, sculpture, landscape photography and street art. Neon artists can also use light and colour in a way that isn’t seen through any other medium. It’s worth reading this article in Complex to discover more amazing artists than I’ve included in this post.

Here are a few of my favourites and examples of their beautiful work! 😊

Jung Lee:

Robert Montgomery:

Tracy Emin:

Massimo Uberti:

Tim Etchells:

Gavin Turk:

Pacifico Palumbo:

Have a great evening πŸ˜πŸ™ŒπŸŒˆ
